On December 12, 2014 the National association of sheep breeders in common with the Russian scientific research institute of sheep and goats breeding carried out a roundtable discussin on a subject: "About a state and prospects of sheep breeding production in Stavropol region in the light of implementation of the industry target program "Development of Sheep and Goats Breeding in the Russian Federation for 2012-2014 and on Planning Period of 2020".
Many specialists and scientists participated in the discussion. Among them were leaders, specialists and scientist and NASB and Scientific institute, Minister of Agriculture of Stavropol region Aleksander Martychev, minister of the Eastern territories of Stavropol region Alexander Korobejnikov, Vice-chairman of the State Duma of the region Victor Lozovoj, leaders and specialists from the main stud farms and processing companies, veterinarians of the Region and scientists. At the beginning of the discussion the Director general of NASB Mikhail Egorov noted that for the beginning of the year Stavropol region was on the third place among the leading sheep breeding regions of the Russian Federation. According to Mr. Egorov the main problems of the local breeders are: little amount of employees, decline of sheep population, absence of processing companies, decline of the level of selective work. All these factors influence the animals’ productivity. NASB and the Livestock Department and breeding works of the Federal Ministry prepared the incentive schemes for wool producing and send it and the list of farms, which are ready to work on producing of wool to the native enterprises of light and textile industry, to the Parliament of the Russian Federation. There are 10 Stavropol farms in the list of the grant’s recipients. The Government plans to devote 153,5mln.rubles. It is a solid approval for the farms and those who decided to work in the sphere of wool producing. Quality is a criterion to which there has to correspond any production, including mutton, noted Mikhail Egorov. Meat of young animals in high-quality cuts and vacuum packing – such mutton including domestic, are ready to buy distribution networks and restaurant business. Own processing is necessary for this purpose. Concern of the Director General of NASB in destiny of branch is divided by heads of the leading Stavropol breeding farms. According to the chairman of agricultural producing cooperative "Stud Farm Second Five-years Period" Igor Serdyukov, at this conjuncture a livestock of sheep can be declined to the lowest level. "It is necessary to look for new ways and methods of conducting sheep breeding. It’s impossible to mechanize breeders’ work – Serdjukov emphasized, - therefore it has to be paid adequately. But not at the expense of a grain production but for account of economy of the branch". The chairman of agricultural producing cooperative Collective farm stud farm "Manych" Sergey Fisenko agreed with this opinion too. He emphasized that quality of sheep of Manychsky Merino breed allows the farm to make production conforming to the international standards. But there isn’t a worthy price of mutton and animals. The Minister of Agriculture of the Stavropol region Alexander Martychev noted that in 2015 the Region plans to protect in the federal Ministry of Agriculture the program of development of sheep breeding within which additional support of branch will be carried out. "We want to reconstruct 2 – 3 meat-processing plants by combined efforts, - Mr. Martychev said". All the participants of the discussion agreed that governmental support is necessary for the developing of sheep breeding branch in the Stavropol region.
