Wintering Is A Crucial Period
The livestock breeders of the Republic of Kalmykia continue a crucial period - the wintering of livestock. Taking into account the extremely unfavorable weather conditions that developed last year, in the form of a prolonged drought, as a result of which there was practically no grass on pastures, the wintering of livestock takes place in difficult conditions.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the republic, the daily feed consumption has increased significantly. According to the operational data of the RMO agribusiness development departments, today there are more than 215.5 thousand tons of coarse and about 27 thousand tons of concentrated feed available in the republic as a whole. The percentage of availability of coarse feed in farms of all forms of ownership is 54% and end-feed 50%. The shortage of feed still persists, until the end of wintering, about 187 thousand tons of coarse and 17 thousand tons of concentrated feed are needed. Currently, farmers of the republic are actively buying feed, both at their own expense, and for the subsidies allocated to agricultural producers at the end of last year for drought. Feed is purchased both on the territory of the republic; it is mainly concentrated feed, which is available for sale in Gorodovikovsky, Yashaltinsky and Sarpinsky districts. As well as coarse and concentrated feed outside the republic in the economic entities of the Rostov, Volgograd, Astrakhan, Ryazan, Voronezh, Saratov regions, the Republics of Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, etc.
At the end of the wintering of livestock, there is an equally important period ahead - the brood of the breeding stock of agricultural animals. In order to obtain healthy young animals, in the collectives of livestock teams these days, special attention is paid to feeding the breeding stock. This year, according to operational data, more than 258.0 thousand cows and more than 900.0 thousand sheep are planned to be bred in agricultural organizations and peasant farms.
